The EduRoam project is the group effort of Swinburne’s ITS department,
Aarnet and many other Universities all around the World to provide a ‘location
independent’ wireless network.
This allows Swinburne’s staff the ability to log into their home system,
using their Novell login, to a wireless network at any participating University
around the World and gain access to Swinburne’s resources.
This also allows visitors from other Worldwide Universities the ability to
use our wireless network with the credentials they would use at their home
institution.
The program, which is based on inter-university trust, originated in the Netherlands
and is rapidly spreading across the UK, Europe and now Australia.
Swinburne University currently has the EduRoam network deployed to all of
it's 430+ access points, and is federated to the EduRoam system.
For more information on the project and a list of participants, please visit http://www.eduroam.edu.au
iPass Global Corporate Roaming provides dial-up and/or wireless access to Swinburne University staff travelling to different parts of Australia, or overseas destinations.
iPass provides staff working away from Swinburne, or any EduRoam site, with reliable and secure connections to Swinburne’s corporate network over the Internet via toll-free or local lines in approximately 150 countries, as well as from numerous iPass-enabled wired and wireless broadband "hotspots" around the globe.
Using iPass off-sets the need to make expensive STD telephone calls to access your information stored on Swinburne’s network, however all connection costs will be billed back to the department.
For further information on how you can access iPass and set up instructions for windows or Mac please refer to the iPass How to Guide on the ITS website.
