If it’s not ham, it’s Spam

Do you realise that Swinburne University currently blocks around 130,000 junk emails per day (that's a staggering 70% of all incoming emails), and that this is still increasing!

ITS is currently implementing a new high performance, replacement spam filter so as to better deal with the high volume of spam being received.

The M+ Guardian appliance integrates a number of different anti-spam technologies which provide a more efficient and effective spam filtering solution. Further improvements over the existing system allow for greater flexibility in how individuals wish to handle their spam filtering.

As a result of these improvements, there will be some changes to the way you access and manage your spam or junk email. One of the main advantages is the tighter integration of M+ Quarantine with our GroupWise email system enabling you to access quarantined email without having to have a separate password.

As this product is replacing an existing system, there will be a short period of overlap, which will require you to access the new web interface via url http://quarantine.cc.swin.edu.au ITS will notify you when your mail will be changed to the new spam filter.

More information about this upcoming change can be found on the ITS web site at http://www.its.swin.edu.au/spam

Should you encounter any difficulties using the new quarantine system when it becomes available, or if you have any questions, simply contact ITS Service Desk on 9214-5000 or email servicedesk@swin.edu.au
