Synchronised laptop files with iFolder

iFolder is an application used to access your network files when you are away from your desk, and unlike NetStorage, iFolder does not require you to have a live internet connection available to enable access to your files.

Once set up, your network files are automatically synchronised to your local computer so that when you are away with no internet connectivity you can still access and edit your files. The next time you are connected to the network, the files are automatically synchronised with the central server. You do not need to remember that the latest file is on your laptop and not the network, nor are you required to upload it to the server like you do with NetStorage....it just happens - automatically (once you are re-connected to the network).

But wait, that's not all. Another equally important reason for using iFolder is that it is a file sharing application (for Windows and Macintosh clients) which lets you easily and selectively share any of your files with any group of users, determined by you, with you in sole control of access levels to the iFolder for each member of that group.

In other words, you have a (i)folder whose contents you wish to share with others but you want to control access and use of those files within that (i)folder - this is where iFolder comes into its own.

The iFolder client synchronises the most recent version of your documents to all authorised users of your shared iFolder. All that you, and other iFolder members, need is a live network connection and the iFolder client.

To start using iFolder you simply:

  1. Download the iFolder client for your platform (Windows, Macintosh) http://ifolder.swin.edu.au/ifolderclients
  2. Follow the relevant installation instructions for your platform.

If you would like to see a demonstration of iFolder or require some assistance in completing the installation, please contact ITS Service Desk on 9214-5000 or email servicedesk@swin.edu.au)
